What's On My Mind ...Glee, Tristan, and Stuff
Hello Blogger Friends. I'm going to apologize before I ever get started if this post appears unorganized and random. I have SO much on my mind that I figured the easiest thing to do would be to try and somehow, collect my thoughts into one post.
So here goes.....
~ Tonight is going to be a GREAT night for TV! Not only are American Idol and LOST on, BUT....Glee returns tonight. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this show. I'm one of those people that will sing any and every chance I get, so a TV show that is dedicated to song and dance is totally up my alley. Tonight's episode is supposed to be all about Madonna. SO EXCITED!!
~ Tristan has been enjoying rice cereal for some time now. And when I say enjoy, I mean he REALLY enjoys it! I swear before cereal that kid was the pokiest eater known to man. However, now that there is cereal in his bottle he sucks it down like it's his last meal on earth. So cute! We started him on oatmeal Saturday and unfortunately, it looks as though he is allergic. He broke out in a rash all around his mouth and down his neck(one of the signs the pediatrician told us to be looking for). I talked to the doctor and she says no more oatmeal for now. I'm really hoping it something that he outgrows and that he definitely doesn't have any more food allergies since we get to start fruits and veggies in about 2 weeks from now.
~ Jason is still actively looking for a new job. I believe at last count he had applied to around 20 jobs. We are really hoping to stay in the Midwest since it would be closer to family. However, we know that if it comes down to the wire, we will have to go where the jobs are regardless of the location.
~ I've been in some kind of funk lately. I don't know if it's a combination of Jason losing his job and the realization that we are going to have to pick up and move that's just now hitting me or what. I'm also really frustrated with my dad right now. I love him SO much but I just don't understand his actions some times. Let's just say it comes down to Ben getting whatever he wants no matter what the cost.
~ Before I moved to NW Arkansas to be with Jason, I worked a second job at a local health club a couple of nights a week. This was such a great job because I was actually motivated to work out. On the nights that I worked, I would get off from my first job and just go straight to the health club to get in a good work out before my shift began. I discovered that I really enjoyed running and that it made me feel REALLY good and I was in shape. I've battled with my weight my entire life and for the first time, I was actually at a place where I was happy with the way I looked.
After I was diagnosed with Crohn's, I was put on steroids to control the inflammation. With the steroids, came almost 80 lbs of weight gain. Something I was not at all happy about, but willing to deal with to get my disease under control. Once I came off the steroids, I was never able to get all of the weight off before I got pregnant with Tristan. Now here I am, the heaviest I've EVER been in my entire life, and I REALLY want to start running again. Only problem is that with my Crohn's comes serious joint pain. This joint pain makes it very difficult for me to do any type of cardio, high-impact exercise which is the only thing I've found that will get my weight off. I'm really not happy with the way I look right now, or the way that I feel, but I don't know what to do.
~ I'm looking forward to getting out this afternoon to run some errands with my boys. It is such a GORGEOUS day outside. I am SO glad that Spring has sprung. I love all this sunshine. I could easily become addicted.
Thanks for "listening" to me. I know this was a rather lengthy post.
But that's what friends are for, right?!
Hope you are able to get out and enjoy lots of sunshine today!!

Toto, We're Not In Kansas Anymore
This past week Jason, Tristan and I headed to Wichita to spend some MUCH needed time with family. It had been such a long time since I had gotten to see my niece and nephews. I didn't realize just how much I had missed them.
A special thanks to by brother-in-law and sister-in-law for the wonderful hospitality they showed us while we were there. It provided such a nice distraction given our current situation.
I can't believe the next time we get together, I will have another niece to love on. My sister-in-law is due to give birth to her new baby girl in the next couple of weeks. Good luck, Jenny! I can't wait to meet baby Caylor!!

A New Chapter Begins.....
Yesterday started off like any other day.
Jason went to work and Tristan and I settled into our daily routine.
Jason came home for lunch just like he always does. Played with Tristan for a while and then headed back to work. When I kissed him goodbye, I told him to have a good afternoon and I would see him in a few hours.
About an hour later, I heard the garage door opening.
I immediately feared the worse. Jason wasn't supposed to be home yet. He had an important report that he had to finish up at work.
I opened the door to the garage to meet him, and he was in tears. The last time I had seen him like this was when he came to get me at work to tell me my mother was dying.
All he kept saying over and over was "I'm sorry".
He had lost his job.
................................................
Today is a new day.
We are looking at this as a new opportunity for us. We are trying to stay positive and be optimistic.
Jason is very skilled in what he does and hopefully will have no trouble finding a new job. Unfortunately, in his field, there are no other jobs where we are currently living, so we will have to relocate. We had really hoped to call our current city "home", but it just isn't meant to be. We are really hoping to stay close to family when we move, but of course, we will have to go where the jobs are.
Please send some good vibes our way in the upcoming months. This could prove to be an especially stressful time for us, since I just recently quit my job to stay at home with our son.
Surprisingly, I am at peace right now. I really feel like this was meant to happen at this point in our lives. I feel as though there is something bigger and better out there for us.
Right now, our future is uncertain.
But I do know this.
Together, the three of us can handle anything that life throws at us.

I {Heart} Rice Cereal
You might remember me mentioning here that Tristan has not been sleeping well at all the last couple of weeks. So last night we decided to start him on rice cereal.
Rice cereal, where have you been all my life??
I don't know how new parents make it without this stuff.
We weren't sure what Tristan would think about it. I should have known better than to worry. He is MY child after all, and I've never met a food that I didn't like.
In fact, Tristan liked it SO much that we couldn't
Tristan slept better last night after having cereal at bedtime than he has in months. Mommy and Daddy did too!

What's On My Mind
- I'm usually a BIG American Idol fan. This year just isn't "wow"ing me like the seasons have in the past. I just find it hard to believe that out of all of the hundreds of thousands of people that auditioned, that these are the BEST they could find. Most of the contestants are forgettable, so much that I can't even NAME the Top 12. Sad.
- I'm an even BIGGER LOST fan. My brother got my hubby and I hooked on the show when he got us Seasons 1 and 2 on DVD for Christmas one year. Dang him!! Anywho, this is the last season. This season has been so hyped up as being "the season of answers"(if you watch the show, you know just how important those answers are). However, I find myself totally disappointed in this season. Maybe I expected TOO much going in, but COME ON!! There are only 9 episodes left and so far, I have been less than impressed. I guess I expected the last season to stand out about the rest. I find it being just like any other season. And they haven't answered hardly any questions at all. I just hope there planning something big at the end. I do appreciate getting to see Sawyer without his shirt on though. {wink}
- Tristan has NOT been sleeping well at all during the night. Everything I've read says that babies his age (he will be 4 months old on Wednesday), should be sleeping for at least a 6-8 hour stretch at night and around 16 total hours a day. HA! I'm lucky if my child sleeps 8 hours total in a 24-hour period. He usually takes a morning nap lasting anywhere from 2-4 hours. Then he takes a short afternoon nap lasting anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour. Then he's up until bedtime which these days is anywhere from 11pm to 1am. Once he's down for the night, he's up every 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Then he's up for the day around 5:30am or 6am. I called the doctor today and we are going to start Tristan on cereal tonight. I'm hoping beyond hope that this will help his sleeping at night.
- I am SERIOUSLY sleep deprived (see above). Tristan not sleeping is taking it's toll on me. Since he is up every hour or so during the night, I'm not getting much sleep, at least not consecutive sleep anyway. I'm physically tired and even more emotionally tired. All I want to do during the day is sleep, but that wouldn't be fair to my baby boy, who surprisingly enough, is up and pleasant and ready to play.
- I have a newfound respect for all the single parents in the world. I honestly don't know how they do it. I am SO thankful for my hubby right now. He has been such a help lately, especially during the nighttime hours. He is sleep deprived, as well, but still manages to get up and go to work each and everyday. What a trooper!
- I really miss my mom at times like these. I want nothing more than to hear her tell me that things with Tristan will get better....that it's nothing that I'm doing wrong. I need a hug from her so much right now.

Christmas.....in February
I received my final paycheck from my former employer today. Much to my surprise, because of my 4th quarter performance last year, I received a very nice and very unexpected bonus. We decided to celebrate.
The hubby and I didn't really get each other gifts for Christmas this past year because we were preparing for and celebrating the birth of our baby boy. Believe me, that was the BEST Christmas present of all.
So tonight, we decided to treat ourselves.
And boy did we treat ourselves!
My hubby came home with this.....
And I came home with this.......

Five Question Friday--Valentines Day Style
Mama M over at My Little Life is hosting a Valentine's edition of Five Question Friday.
So let's get started.....
1. What is the one thing your love does for you that you can't live without?
This is a hard one for me. There are so many things that my hubby does that I don't think I could live with out.
He folds ALL the laundry because I HATE to fold clothes.
He runs to the grocery store on the way home from work because I've forgotten an ingredient or two for that night's dinner.
He lets me sleep in on the weekends.
He even paints my toe nails. (SHHH...don't tell I told you, he might be embarassed that I outed him)
If I had to to pick just one thing that I couldn't live with out, it would be the love that he has for our baby boy. Becoming a father last November has changed him so much. I wish you could see the love in his eyes everytime he looks at our son. It is SO awesome and I love him for the way that he loves Tristan.
2. When did you know your love was "the one"?
As you know from our "how did we meet" story earlier in the week, it took a while for us to get together. However, I knew from the first time that I saw him across the cafeteria at college that he was "the one". I swear as unbelievable as that sounds, it's the honest to goodness truth. It really was love at first sight!!
3. Does your love have a special ringtone on your cell?
I used to have a special ringtone for him, but we just recently got new cell phones and I haven't jazzed it up yet. I would switch it up between "I Just Called to Say I Loved You", "Take Me Home Tonight" and "Let's Get It On". =)
4. What are you attracted to most in your special someone?
Phusically, I would have to say I'm attracted to his eyes and his smile. However, what I find the MOST attractive about my hubby is his passion. He is so passionate about being a husband, a father, a son, a friend, an employee. He puts his heart into everything he does.
5. Did you know when/where he/she was going to pop the big question?
We both knew we were getting married eventually, but I can honestly say the proposal was a complete and total surprise. I think it was for him too. Evidently, he was planning something big, but on a spur of the moment decision decided that getting down on one knee in our kitchen floor was the right time to propose. It was the perfect moment.
So there you have it. A very LOVEly edition of Five Question Friday. If you want to participate, hop on over to Mama M's blog by clicking on the button above. Not only will you have fun doing it, but you might find some new blogs that you enjoy reading along the way.

Valentine's Day Extravaganza Day #2
It's the second day of Mama M's Valentine's Day Extravaganza. Yesterday was all about the meeting, today it's all about the dating. Since the hubby and I were best friends before we really went into the boyfriend/girlfriend role, we didn't really go on "dates" like the conventional couple would. My best date story takes place the Valentine's Day 2 months before we got married.
We were attending a marriage conference that weekend. Since the conference was taking place over Valentine's Day weekend, we had free time on Saturday night to have a "date night". Jason and I had made reservations at a really nice restaraunt in town. Things had been pretty hectic for us since we were in the midst of wedding planning, so instead of getting gifts for each other, we opted for a nice quite dinner with each other.
While on our way to the restaraunt, Jason says he needs to stop off at our apartment to pick something up that he had gotten for me. While I was flattered at the idea of a gift, I was feeling a little guilty because I hadn't gotten him anything.
So we pull up and park. He then tells me it will just be easier for me to come in with him and open my gift there rather than taking it with us to the restaraunt. We lived around the back of the apartment building so you couldn't see our door or the stairs leading up to our apartment from the parking lot.
As we walk around the corner, I notice that there are rose petals sprinkled all over the stairs. I'm a little slow, so I still hadn't really caught on to what's going on. I'm pretty sure I made some comment like, "How sweet! Look what someone did for Valentine's Day!" Then we get to our door and I realize it's what HE did for me for Valentine's Day.
We enter our apartment and there are candles everywhere. There is music playing and my favorite bottle of wine chilling on the table. Jason had arranged for a friend that he worked with to come in and cook this AMAZING dinner for us, complete with homemade Tiramisu for dessert. I was completely surprised. Evidently he had been planning this for some time and let me tell you, he pulled it off beautifully. I was completely surprised and it was one of the best nights ever.
Thanks Babe for all your hard work. It was a night that I will never forget.

Valentine's Day Extravaganza
This year, Mama M is hosting a Valentine's Day Extravaganza over on her blog, My Litttle Life. It sounds like SO much fun. Today we are supposed to write about how we met the love of our life.
The love of my life(that would be my WONDERFUL hubby, Jason) and I have known each other for 13 years, been together for 8 and married for almost 6. I hate answering the question of how we met, because the truth is, we met in college because he dated my roomate. Now before you get the wrong idea, let me explain.
Nothing, and I repeat, nothing happened between us while they were dating. I'm not that kind of girl The only thing that DID result in their relationship was us becoming best friends.
Unfortunately, there were many more boyfriends/girlfriends between the two of us before he wised up and admitted his feelings for me we ended up together.
And the rest is history in the making while we live happily ever after.
If you would like to join in, just click on this super snazzy button that Mama M made just for the occasion.

UGH!!
UPDATE: WE HAVE GROCERIES!!!
original post:
I am SO mad right now.
I am so mad I could spit. In fact, I think I just did a little on my laptop.
Let me start off by saying that I love my husband more than life itself. He is my best friend and I know when it came down to it he would do anything for me. However, he is the world's BIGGEST procrastinator. He likes to put off doing almost anything.
Oh my gosh! It drives me nuts.
In this case, all he needs to do is go the grocery store. Now, just so you know, I ALWAYS offer to go with him. I'm just not quite comfortable going by myself yet with a 2 month old. Most times he will offer to go by himself so we don't have to bundle up the baby and get him out in the cold weather.
In this particular case, he was supposed to have the afternoon off on Friday. So I was all prepared to go, grocery list in hand. Well, because of things at work he had no control over (I hate his job, but that's another story entirely), we were unable to go. So the solution was that he was going to let me sleep in on Saturday morning and then after I was up and showered, we would go to the store.
So on Saturday morning, I slept in, got up and showered and was all ready to go. On Saturday, however, my sweet baby boy was not feeling well at all. So we BOTH decided not to get out and go to the store. Jason offered to go by himself on Sunday.
Sunday came and went and he didn't go to the grocery store. He did go to Sam's with a friend of his and got toliet paper and kleenex, but we still had no food in the house. So he said that he would go Monday on his way home from work.
Monday came and he ended up working late and didn't make it to the grocery store. He did run by and grab something that I could throw together for dinner because we were both SO tired of fast food. He promised that he was going to get up this morning and 6am and go to the grocery store before he had to be at work at 8am.
So 6am rolls around this morning. I get up with the baby to feed him. Jason gets the bottle ready for me like he always does while I'm changing Tristan's diaper. I was feeling slightly giddy inside because I was thinking that since he's up helping me with the baby, he might acutally FINALLY get to the grocery store. So Tristan and I settle in and what does Jason do? He goes back to bed.....
He made it to work by 8am, but we still have no groceries. UGH!!

One Month Check-up
Tristan’s one month check up was today. Jason and I were very anxious to see just how much he has grown over the last 3 weeks since our first pediatrician visit. Drum roll please…..Tristan is weighing in at 10lbs 8oz and is 21 ½ inches long. WOW!!! We could tell his cheeks had gotten fuller and his clothes were fitting better, but we never imagined he had put on over 2lbs in 3 weeks! Our boy definitely likes to eat.
There is a chance that our little guy suffers from hypothyroidism. We are scheduled to see a pediatric endocrinologist on January 4th for further testing and to learn more about this condition. Right now, Tristan is taking medication just as a precaution because the earlier treatment is started the better. Please keep Tristan in your prayers that everything will work out and he does not suffer from this condition. While it is certainly treatable and he could lead a normal life, I hate to think of him having to be on medication for the rest of his life.
The doctor did confirm that Tristan seems to have his days and nights mixed up. This kid can sleep through anything during the day, but night rolls around when mommy and daddy want to go to bed and he is ready to go. This has really started wearing on Jason and I. I think I've slept about 2 hours in the last 48. I try so hard to sleep during the day when Tristan is napping, but I just can't. I think it's mostly because I feel guilty. Jason gets up and goes to work on little to no sleep everyday and doesn't have the opportunity to nap like I do. I honestly don't know how he does it. I am a complete zombie on no sleep and can barely form a coherent thought.
We are trying something a little different tonight. Tristan has been sleeping in our room up until now. Tonight, he and I are camped out in the nursery while Jason gets some much needed sleep. After Tristan eats, we will switch places and Jason will sit/play (hopefully sleep) in the nursery while I catch a few hours of sleep. Unfortunately, the doctor says there really isn't anything we can do that we aren't already doing. It will just correct itself on it's own...eventually. I hope Jason and I can make it that long.
Jason and I are so luck to have this little boy in our lives. We learn something new about him and ourselves each and everyday. I can't believe it's already been a month. It seems like only yesterday we found out we were pregnant and now here we are with the sweetest little boy on earth. At least we think so........

First Bath and Stuff
I remember how much I enjoyed bathtime growing up. I truly was in heaven when I was in the tub. As long as I had my Star Wars figurines to play with I could have stayed in the tub for hours. Some times I did stayed so long that mom would have to come in and add more hot water. We gave Tristan his first "real" bath the other night and boy did he LOVE it!! He was so relaxed as Jason and I washed him and squeezed the warm water down over him, but then who wouldn't be?? I'm glad that he enjoyed himself so much.
My mother in law came to visit for a few days this past weekend and we sure did enjoy having her here. Tristan just adores his Mamaw and I'm pretty sure she's fond of him too! Having Vicki here gave Jason and I a chance to get out and run some errands while she watched Tristan. It was weird for me to be away from him for so long, but I think Jason and I enjoyed some "grown up" time together although I'm pretty sure we talked about Tristan the entire time we were gone.
Today we are heading to the doctor for Tristan's 1 month checkup. I can't believe it's already been a month. We have a lot of questions for the doctor and are looking forward to seeing how much he's grown. I will be sure and post on that later.
We are also heading to Charleston tomorrow for Christmas. I'm really looking forward to going home. I haven't been there since May!! I know my Dad is looking forward to us being there. He usually calls everyday to check on "his boy" as he calls Tristan. He's really coming into this Grandpa role very well. While I'm looking forward to going home, I'm not looking forward to packing. I swear we are going to need a U-haul just to get us all there.
Sounds like Tristan is waking up. Better go and get his bottle ready. He hasn't quite learned the art of patience just yet.

Two Weeks....
So I'm two weeks into this whole being a mother thing. And let me tell you, it's been the most wonderful and the most stressful two weeks of my life. Tristan is the sweetest thing ever. I love watching him sleep just so I can catch a smile or a giggle when he's dreaming. His skin is so soft and I just love that new baby smell. Sometimes he falls asleep while holding on to my finger and I hope he never let's go. It's these moments that make me feel like I've got this being a mother role down pat.
Then there are the times when he's been fed and his diaper changed and yet I can't seem to console him. He only cries for a few minutes and then calms himself down, but it's during those few minutes that I begin doubting myself. I just hate not knowing the meaning behind those cries. I hate not knowing if there is something I should be doing to make him better. I know that babies are supposed to cry, that it's there only way of communicating, but it's still so hard.
There's also the lack ogf sleep that Jason and I have been experiencing. Tristan does so well during the day. We can give him a bottle, rock him for a few minutes and then put him down. He will sleep a couple of hours no problem. Then 10pm rolls around and it all changes. We give him a bottle, rock him for a few minutes and then put him down. Only now, he only sleeps about 45 minutes before he's up again. We've discovered that as long as he's being held he sleeps just fine-for hours even. So I end up holding him for the rest of the night. He sleeps great--me, not so much. Thank goodness for Jason. With him here, I can manage to sleep a few hours during the afternoon while he watches the baby.
Which brings me to the fact that Jason has to go back to work on Monday. I'm so not looking forward to this. Don't get me wrong, I feel like I'm perfectly capable of taking care of my son, it's just nice having that extra body around just in case. I'm also still a little sore from my C-Section. I can do most things, but there are still a few things that cause me some pain. I feel especially sorry for Jason. I know he is really dreading Monday. I'm just thankful that he loves us as much as he does. You see, if things work out the way we hope, I will get to stay home with Tristan full-time while Jason supports us. I truly am lucky to have such a wonderful man in my life--make that TWO wonderful men in my life.
Looking back on these past two weeks, I can honestly say I've learned a lot about being a mother--from smiles and giggles to surviving on little to no sleep. One things for sure, I wouldn't trade my baby boy for anything in the world because he makes it all worth it.

In a little bit of trouble...
My mother-in-law was in town this past weekend. We were working on getting her blog setup before her 4-5 month trek out West. I got into a little bit of trouble because I haven't been the best about keeping my own blog up to date. This is especially important to her now that they will have limited communication with the rest of the family while they are off enjoying retirement. This is my attempt to get myself back into her good graces. Momma Vicki, this one's for you! =)
As of tomorrow, I will officially be 16 weeks prego. Overall, things have gone very smoothly. My only complaint so far is how incredibly tired I've been. I seem to have no energy at all no matter how much sleep I get. I'm still waiting for this so-called "energy burst" that everyone says comes in the second trimester. I think my energy burst skipped me all together.
My next two doctor's appointments are scheduled for June 29 and July 28. I don't expect anything exciting to happen at the one in June, HOWEVER, the one at the end of the July is the BIG day! That's right, that is when we are hoping to find out the sex of the baby. I'm so excited about finding out that I'm about to bust. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not going to be happier with one sex over the other, I just want to know and know NOW!!! I'm not a very patient person. =)
Jason and I will be taking a mini-vacation at the end of July to St. Louis. We will be spending a couple of nights there and checking out one of our favorite spots there--The Science Center. We might also do a little bit of baby shopping since we will know what colors to start looking for. Didn't I conveniently plan this trip? I'm pretty clever like that. =)
Jason's birthday is coming up next Wednesday. He will be turning 32 years young. He doesn't seem to be having as many issues with this birthday as he has with the last two. Maybe the fact that he's going to be a dad in December has made him appreciate growing older and wiser. I do want to take a minute to recognize just how wonderful Jason has been over the last few months. Not that he's not always wonderful, but he's been extra wonderful since we found out about the baby. He is so loving and considerate of me and the baby. He's always talking to him or her through my stomach and always makes sure to give us BOTH a kiss goodnight. He's going to make the most wonderful father. I can't wait to see him with the baby. I know that he's nervous about knowing just what to do, but he will be a pro in no time.
