Toto, We're Not In Kansas Anymore

This past week Jason, Tristan and I headed to Wichita to spend some MUCH needed time with family.  It had been such a long time since I had gotten to see my niece and nephews.  I didn't realize just how much I had missed them.

I got to play outside with these cuties.

And this beautiful girl........

let me sleep in her princess bed

We got to watch my oldest nephew, G play soccer on Saturday.  It was so cloudy and windy that I didn't get any pictures, but he played SO well.  He even scored 2 goals!!

The boys ended the weekend by building a fort.  They don't sit still for long, but I was able to snap a quick pick of this handsome group.

I just love all of my little munchkins SOOOOOO much!!!

A special thanks to by brother-in-law and sister-in-law for the wonderful hospitality they showed us while we were there.  It provided such a nice distraction given our current situation.

I can't believe the next time we get together, I will have another niece to love on.  My sister-in-law is due to give birth to her new baby girl in the next couple of weeks.  Good luck, Jenny!  I can't wait to meet baby Caylor!!

A New Chapter Begins.....

Yesterday started off like any other day.

Jason went to work and Tristan and I settled into our daily routine.

Jason came home for lunch just like he always does.  Played with Tristan for a while and then headed back to work.  When I kissed him goodbye, I told him to have a good afternoon and I would see him in a few hours.

About an hour later, I heard the garage door opening.

I immediately feared the worse.  Jason wasn't supposed to be home yet.  He had an important report that he had to finish up at work.

I opened the door to the garage to meet him, and he was in tears.  The last time I had seen him like this was when he came to get me at work to tell me my mother was dying.

All he kept saying over and over was "I'm sorry".

He had lost his job.

................................................

Today is a new day.

We are looking at this as a new opportunity for us.  We are trying to stay positive and be optimistic.

Jason is very skilled in what he does and hopefully will have no trouble finding a new job.  Unfortunately, in his field, there are no other jobs where we are currently living, so we will have to relocate.  We had really hoped to call our current city "home", but it just isn't meant to be.  We are really hoping to stay close to family when we move, but of course, we will have to go where the jobs are.

Please send some good vibes our way in the upcoming months.  This could prove to be an especially stressful time for us, since I just recently quit my job to stay at home with our son.

Surprisingly, I am at peace right now.  I really feel like this was meant to happen at this point in our lives. I feel as though there is something bigger and better out there for us.

Right now, our future is uncertain.

But I do know this.

Together, the three of us can handle anything that life throws at us.

UGH!!

UPDATE:  WE HAVE GROCERIES!!!

original post:

I am SO mad right now.

I am so mad I could spit.  In fact, I think I just did a little on my laptop.

Let me start off by saying that I love my husband more than life itself.  He is my best friend and I know when it came down to it he would do anything for me.  However, he is the world's BIGGEST procrastinator.  He likes to put off doing almost anything.

Oh my gosh!  It drives me nuts.

In this case, all he needs to do is go the grocery store.  Now, just so you know, I ALWAYS offer to go with him.  I'm just not quite comfortable going by myself yet with a 2 month old.  Most times he will offer to go by himself so we don't have to bundle up the baby and get him out in the cold weather.

In this particular case, he was supposed to have the afternoon off on Friday.  So I was all prepared to go, grocery list in hand.  Well, because of things at work he had no control over (I hate his job, but that's another story entirely), we were unable to go.  So the solution was that he was going to let me sleep in on Saturday morning and then after I was up and showered, we would go to the store.

So on Saturday morning, I slept in, got up and showered and was all ready to go.  On Saturday, however, my sweet baby boy was not feeling well at all.  So we BOTH decided not to get out and go to the store. Jason offered to go by himself on Sunday.

Sunday came and went and he didn't go to the grocery store.  He did go to Sam's with a friend of his and got toliet paper and kleenex, but we still had no food in the house.  So he said that he would go Monday on his way home from work.

Monday came and he ended up working late and didn't make it to the grocery store.  He did run by and grab something that I could throw together for dinner because we were both SO tired of fast food.  He promised that he was going to get up this morning and 6am and go to the grocery store before he had to be at work at 8am.

So 6am rolls around this morning.  I get up with the baby to feed him.  Jason gets the bottle ready for me like he always does while I'm changing Tristan's diaper.  I was feeling slightly giddy inside because I was thinking that since he's up helping me with the baby, he might acutally FINALLY get to the grocery store.  So Tristan and I settle in and what does Jason do?  He goes back to bed.....

He made it to work by 8am, but we still have no groceries.  UGH!!

Christmas and the New Year

Our trip to Charleston for Christmas was definitely a learning experience for Jason and I.  We are still learning that it takes twice as long to get anywhere with a baby.  This trip was no exception.  Christmas Eve morning we were up at 7am thinking we would be on the road by 9am at the latest. HA!  After packing up everything but the kitchen sink, we finally got on the road about 10am and that was after rushing around like crazy people.  It rained the entire trip which did not bode well for two very sleep deprived parents.  Tristan did GREAT on the trip, sleeping the whole way and waking up to eat just once.  On the other hand, for Jason and I it was such a struggle.  Riding in a car makes me sleepy anyway and when you are going on little to no sleep for several weeks PLUS a cloudy rainy day, it makes for a VERY long trip.

This is where Tristan spent most of his time while we were in Charleston.

Tristan had his Grandpa wrapped around his finger the entire trip.  He would sit and hold him for hours.  He even got up with me in the early morning hours and watched the baby so that I could get a few more hours of sleep.  I'm amazed at how my father has taken to Tristan.  He even chaged a poopy diaper while we were there.  Believe me, that's a BIG deal for my dad.

We have always opened our family presents on Christmas Eve and Santa would come on Christmas morning.  After Ben was born we continued this tradition and would celebrate Ben's birthday on Christmas afternoon.  It was always a crazy 24 hours filled with lots of food, fun, and gifts.  Christmas was always my mom's favorite holiday.  After she died it just hasn't been the same.  It's hard to enjoy a holiday that reminds us all so much of her.

This is a bib that some of Ben's friends got for Tristan.  Ben thinks it's perfect.

We also celebrated Ben's 17th birthday on Christmas Day.  I can't believe my baby brother is 17 years old!!  I still remember the day he was born.

We had a great long weekend in Charleston visiting with family and friends that we haven't seen in a while, but we were glad to get back home on Sunday.

I'm looking forward to seeing what 2010 will bring us.  We are hoping for some big things to happen this year, but only time will tell.  In closing, here are a few more pictures from our long weekend in Charleston.

My 5 favorite kiddos

I have a picture that I just had to share. This is a pic of my neice and nephews whom I absolutely adore!!! This is Grady(5), Ellie(4) Ridge(2), Hudson(1) and Anders(4m). They live in Maryland and I rarely get to see them. I miss them like crazy, but they are the sweetest and cutest bunch of kiddos that I know....until I have my own of course.
